Integrating TDM and Ethernet services over fibre

To address the technical challenges of deploying ethernet applications while still providing support for the time critical requirements of TDM and industrial applications, Avara has designed the OAP range of managed optical network terminal.

The OAP series of products provides an integrated solution for delivering TDM and ethernet services over a packet based ethernet fibre network.

Avara’s OAP402 takes TDM based voice and serial data services (X.21/V.11 or RS.232) and converts them into packets for transport over IP and ethernet based networks.

VLAN’s, Traffic Management and Security

The OAP402 provides extensive VLAN, traffic management and security features.

    • -IEEE 802.1Q VLAN’s
    • -VLAN stacking (QinQ)
    • -Rate limiting per ethernet port
    • -Port Mirroring
    • -Port locking

IEEE 802.1Q VLAN’s offers significant benefits in terms of efficient use of bandwidth, flexibility in network design, and security. VLANs allow devices distributed throughout the network to be grouped together based on logical function rather than physical location.

Avara’s OAP402 VLAN and traffic management features makes it possible to classify and protect critical devices in the network from unauthorized user access, unwanted traffic, broadcast storms, or malfunctioning devices.
